An Introduction to Fetal Alcohol and the Law

7/3/2014

These two short animated films, about 10 minutes each, are for those who want a quick yet thorough introduction to Fetal Alcohol and the Law. We made these films because the topic of fetal alcohol goes to the heart of the difficulties in law, medicine, education, social services, and how we spend, or do not spend, our tax dollars. I want to start a conversation that will bring some fairness to the lives of those with this brain based physical disability.

I have just watched these two animated films. Outstanding. Thank you, David Boulding. For sure I will be joining your conversation to "bring some fairness to the lives of those with this brain based physical disability." In particular I will be recommending that people watch these films!

I love the two short films. They are short yet tell the story. Well done. I would like permission to use these as part of my presentation to police services in Simcoe County, Ontario. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks Kathryn

I created FASD Speaks, a non profit organization, to create supports and services for adults with FASD that currently don't exist. When I was diagnosed with FASD I was just told good luck. I was not given a list of resources " just good luck". I created FASD Speaks to do just that. There are so many who go undiagnosed and that needs to change as well. I myself wasn't diagnosed until I was 45 years old. If I had been diagnosed with cancer I would have been given a list of supports and services not told "good luck".

I’m a grandmother, raising my grandson just turned 18.
Three years I’ve taken him to doctors he was diagnosed ADHD. I’m sure you understand. Now that I know what it is. I have a hard time explaining this to people he got in trouble, and the prosecutor is determined not to listen to me, I’ve explained to her what he has I’ve gotten copies of his mothers DWI reckless, driving battery you name it she refuses to take any information I give her. He was with an adult and stole a chainsaw. He was told he had 6 to 9 months and he would have to go to a facility to get an education . He’s been in there seven months and found out it’s all dead time. There was a mentally ill boy that was put in there with him. He slapped him on the arm and asked him to quit screaming and cussing him so she’s trying to charge him with that now I’ve asked the judge and gave him information on fetal alcohol syndrome. I’m praying when we go back on the 18th. He will have good news. This place is hurting him. It’s not helping him. He was already traumatized and this is making it worse. She’s been notifying us about court we knew we had a court date on the 22nd but she changed it and contacted him because he just turned 18 December 23 and also had the Attorney that sits by her in court contact him. I don’t feel he should be making any decisions with either of these people. The attorney was very rude to us the last time we were in court he showed no compassion for my grandson and he was very disrespectful to me. How can I get this across to these people? I’m just now learning I spend every night looking for help, and now I understand What he was going through when he told me he did not think like I did and how hard it was especially to learn it’s killing me because he’s a good kid. He’s not a bad kid. I enjoyed this and I hope to see more like this I live in Florida, and I see where Jeff Bush signed it into law, but it’s not in our schools And no one knows about it especially our prosecutor in our states Attorney I’m in a small town. My grandson had six broke noses where they take him into the bathroom and allow the other prisoners to beat him. He’s quit telling me things now so I don’t know if he still being abused . Thank you for listening and thank you for putting good stuff out there for people that need it like do.

Just like any other comments here, I love what I saw. These short films are indeed a must-watch, especially for those people who don't know yet the real value of manure and keep on spending it to stuff like alcohol and other vices. I mean, it's not wrong to have your votes as long as you know your limitation. You should always set a limitation for yourself because that can also be a perfect way to save yourself from early death. I know it must be very hard to control, but you need to do it!

From what I understand, Sublocade can stay in your system for quite a while—anywhere from several weeks to over a month depending on your dosage and metabolism. It’s designed to release slowly, so it helps manage cravings over time.

Wondering how long Suboxone (or Subutex/Suballocate) stays in your system? The duration depends on dosage, frequency of use, and individual metabolism. On average, it may be detectable for several days in urine and up to weeks in other tests.
